TESTIMONIALS

Mark,

Several years ago, your shop did some work for me on a Cadex chassis Remington 700 .308 build. I just wanted to provide you an update on the rifle.  First, your shop provided top tier machine work. I have since recommended your services to everyone in my shooting community.

Second, I have improved on my own loads and training and gotten the accuracy of the rifle to shoot a .21 MOA grouping at 100m. The rifle has also scored a good deal of successful hits well past 1,000m. This would not have been possible without the excellent attention to detail provided by your shop.

Finally, the professional conduct, attention to detail, and customer service were excellent and greatly appreciated. I am excited to see that the PRS data reflects an increase in high end competitors utilizing your services. I hope that you and your employees maintain your humility, your commitment to excellence, and your passion for the art. Thank you again.

Your Desert Tech 7mm-300wsm barrel is shooting awesome. Running the 195gr EOL @ 2873fps at 68F. Here is my 1420yard 7-shot group which had 12″ of vertical and 5 1/2″ excluding my flyer. SD on 10-shot groups are running at 8. I had a 30-shot group with SD of 10.8. I’m doing an extreme long range class later this month so I’m excited to try it out there.

Good afternoon Sarah,I received the rifle last week and just wanted to pass along to all of you that it is awesome. I am very happy with the way it turned out and look forward to the next project with Short Action Customs. Y’all really do amazing work.

I shot the 6.5 today. It shoots amazing. Thanks again. Below is a picture of the first 7 rounds. The top shot just off the paper was the first round from bore sighting. I made an adjustment and took a second shot. it hit just below the center ring out of the orange circle. I cleaned it after both of those rounds and it was very clean and no copper at all. I then made the final adjustment and shot a 5 shot group right in the center. Hornady 140gr ELD-M. I am very happy with it and cannot wait to stretch its legs.

“I contacted Mark to have a custom rifle built for me. Mark was incredibly patient with all my questions and offered up a number of suggestions to produce the exact gun I was looking for. The only thing better than the excellent fit and finish was how well the rifle shoots. I’m still fine tuning my hand loads but am already getting .25 MOA results. Short Action Customs epitomizes the phrase “you get what you pay for”.
Wonderful experience, incredible craftsmanship, outstanding performance”.

Everyone at Short Action Customs,
Wow!!! That’s all I can say. You guys knocked it out of the park not only does my rifle look like a piece of art but it is a tack driver. Just got done at the range on a less then ideal day and got her sighted in and my first 3 round group was just one jagged dime sized hole. Best group I have ever shot. I only have 15 rounds down the tube and I am completely in love and I have everyone at SAC to thank you for it. You guys are awesome and now my go to gunsmiths. Thank you!

I just wanted drop a note to say thank you. Last week I had my 75 year old father inlaw out to run the 6.5CM you just built me out of some spare stuff (and new stuff). He found his grove and 70 years of shooting and your craftsmanship produced this group at 310yards. He was gonna give up for the day and I had him shoot one more 5 shot group. The first one to the left was a slip off the rear bag. The next four well the planets aligned ! He hasn’t smiled that much in years. I just kept saying. Send another. Never told him a thing till he saw it through the spotting scope. All with Hornady factory 140 ELDM ammo.Needless to say he’s excited to go to Rayners this month. Thank you again for your attention to detail and unparalleled customer service. You have my business for life.

I finished turkey season and got some time to work up a load for the Short Action Customs 223 conversion kit for the Desert Tech. I  Started testing for seating depth with 23gr Varget and everything I tried .001, .005 and .010″ off all shot under 0.5″ with .001″ off being a ragged hole.  Then I loaded in 0.3gr increments until pressure signs.  The barrel has one of the widest nodes I have ever seen.  It shot pretty much 0.2’s to 0.4″ on almost every load up until pressure signs at 25.2gr Varget and below was the that group…it’s a hammer.  These are just 3 shot groups for testing but it is easily a 0.3ish barrel.  I was pumped so I loaded 150 rounds and then terrorized ever crow in this end of the county the rest of the afternoon. I’ll chrono it when I record final data on the barrel but it’s gonna be fast.  Your long range chamber is perfect or allowing max case capacity with a secant ogive bullet  Figured you would want to see some of the fruits of the labor.

Just thought I would give you an update on my FN SPR build you did.  This thing is hammering!!!  After working up some loads, I’m getting many groups in the .2s, and even a couple .1s.  Still no zero group, but I’m working on it!

Here is a small write-up I did with some pictures of the final product on the FN forums: FN Forums

I wanted to extend a huge thank you to you Mark and whomever else may have worked on my rifle. I just opened the package from Fedex and was immediately impressed, everything looks phenomenal and I can’t wait to get it out and see how it shoots. This should be a rifle that lasts a very long time as primarily a hunting and long range rig and hopefully we put meat in the freezer for years to come, thank you again for helping out and getting the rifle to me before my big trip to NRA’s Whittington Center!

Mark, Hello! Bought a rifle off you back in October and I am just writing you to tell you how immensely pleased I am with it. Excellent build, perfect, it’s absolutely phenomenal.
I spent a couple months on load development and getting back into long range. A few weeks back I did a dope chart and walked her back to 1200yds. I’m highly impressed with the rifle. Many thanks.

Hey Mark, hope you have been well and your business is getting the recognition it deserves. I have been having such a wonderful time shooting the two rifles you made for me. They are well worn in and shooting immaculately. Just like to say I have never had a nicer rifle to shoot at the range than the 260 as for the 308 it has seen many good hunts and been in a lot of very diverse situations, today I was helicopter shooting and it performed above and beyond as always.

Thanks heaps for improving the enjoyment of my hunting and my hobby hope to use your services again.

Mark, I wanted to get in touch with you regarding my DTA 6.5 SAUM barrel. It is 26″, Bartlein, cerakoted FDE with spiral flutes, and melonited. I spent some time with it yesterday and couldn’t be more impressed. I shot 3 shots at 100 yards into 1-ragged hold. I didn’t want to mess it up, so I shot another 5-shot group. 2nd group is almost 1-hole as well. It shoots sub 1/4-MOA at 100 yards and sub 1/2 MOA out to 500, which is the furthest I’ve taken it so far.

I continue to be impressed with the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel and the 7 WSM barrel you made as well. All are more accurate than I am. Could not be happier. Just wanted you to know.

Mark, words can’t even begin to describe how happy I am with the rifle you built. After firing two rounds to zero it, I fired rounds 3, 4 and 5 into the smallest 100 yard 3 shot group I’ve ever fired. It measured .207 center to center. I then fired a 3 round group a 200 yards that measure .511 center to center. I also managed to head shoot a ground hog at 211 yards. You will definitely see more of my business in the future.

Mark,
I received the rifle this afternoon, it looks great! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job. I couldn’t be happier with the quality all I been doing since it arrive is saying wow, Mark Gordon kicks butt. I am glad I decided to take my business to you and your team. I researched different builders for a few months before I called you. You are an awesome builder; the best in the business by far. Every time I see one of your builds on the net makes me smile. I wish you and your team lots of success through the years to come. You haven’t heard the last of me.

Mark,
Just wanted to give you another good news report on the 260 DTA barrel. After adjusting my load down an entire grain, to 41gr of H4350, my load is back to the magic 2800fps that the barrel seems to like so much. We took it out this last weekend to confirm, and that thing shot lights out. From 600-950, it was easy shooting from hill top to hill top, with 10-15mph 90 degree wind. I was repeatedly hitting 9×13″ plates at those ranges… Even from field positions off of shooting sticks. My buddy on the other hand is using his DTA 260 barrel, and still not having nearly as great of luck as I am.
Thanks again for putting out a quality product. I may have to look into a 308 before too long so I don’t wear out the 260.

Mark. Been a couple months since I received my rifle. Just to give you an update to tell you how pleased I am with it.
I have been working on a load and settled in on 45 grains of Varget pushing a 168 Berger VLD hunting. It gives me an extreme velocity spread of 10 fps out of 10 rounds. With a .031″ center to center vertical deviation in a group at 230 yards (yes that’s a zero before the 31 after the decimal, I had to measure it several times).
If only being able to read the wind was as easy as getting you to build my rifle I would be set.

Mark. Got the rifle last night. Trigger is amazing. If I go REAL slow on the trigger I can just barely feel a two-stage process, but if I pull a little quicker it feels similar to my one stage Timney AR trigger…but a hell of a lot lighter. Overall, I can’t imagine a more versatile or perfect trigger for my applications with this rifle. I attached a shot from the range today. Center to center the 100 yard 4 shot group (yes, there are four buried in there) is 0.651″ (minus the one flyer above). I’m not a rifle shooter, so this is pretty good for me. I’m sure that an experienced rifleman could take it under 0.5″ with ease. Thanks again for the amazing work.

Mark, I got the bolt back today. Your work is truly incredible and looks even better than I imagined it could. It really makes the bolt throw feel a lot better. I have been wanting to do this for several years but couldn’t get the courage up to mail my bolt out and I didn’t trust any of the local gunsmiths. This rifle is an absolute tack driver and it was a tough decision to go ahead with the modification, but I am so glad that I did. I have to admit that I was extremely nervous during the process. I just knew it was going to get lost between here and there. At last, my worry was for nothing and your work is exceptional. I look forward to discussing a new build project with you after the holidays. Thanks a bunch and Merry Christmas,

I came to Mark mid 2010 exploring the idea of a custom build, after hearing about his work online. After contacting Mark, I got the feeling he was very responsive, taking time out to answer my questions in detail. Little did I know, he would far exceed my expectations not only with communications but with the quality of his work. Some time passed and I committed to shooting competitively for the 2011 season and realized that my current setup would not be competitive. I really needed a gunsmith I could count on and could lean on also as a consultant. The challenge was that I had Shooters Bash 2010 coming up and very little time. I asked Mark to basically perform a custom build using only the existing action and chassis and a few days turnaround time. I recognized this was a stretch due to the short notice.

Mark exceeded my expectations, turning around the rifle over a weekend, and Fedexing the rifle back to me. The fit and finish was flawless. As I screwed on the muzzle break, the fit was so true that I could hear a distinct click as the break aligned itself perfectly to the 12 O’clock position. I was able to develop a load for the rifle in time, and perform well with it at the Bash. With a tuned load, this 6.5 Creedmoor rifle shoots 5 shot groups smaller than 0.2 inches. The trued action allows me to manipulate the bolt with ease and faster than the competition. Looking forward, I’m currently working on another customized rifle with Mark, to give me an edge at the Steel Safari 2011. I am fortunate to be able to work with Mark, to help provide me the equipment I have complete confidence in, with predictable, top-notch, precision. It’s not easy to find someone with an equivalent passion towards building top notch rifles as I am about practicing and competing and it’s a privilege to help represent Short Action Customs at competitions this year.

I’m VERY happy with the craftsmanship you have displayed installing the Badger bolt knob (FN SPR)!!
I’ve been waiting a long time to find someone who could do this installation with this much attention to detail.

Thank you!
